London’s opening game of the 2006 Mundiavocat saw them play Vancouver, a team who they had beaten at the previous two Mundiavocats.  Vancouver came in to the tournament with high hopes and must have been disappointed to come up against London.  Vancouver started the game very strongly and piled the pressure on London taking a deserved lead.  London fought back to secure a hard earned 1-1 draw; a result that suited neither team.  London followed up the Vancouver game with an easy 9-0 win over Osaka and faced Napoli in their final group game.  Because of the 1-1 draw in their opening game and Napoli’s win over Vancouver, London had to win the game to qualify for the knock-out stages.  However, a fluke early goal for Napoli meant that London needed two goals to progress.  Despite having all of the pressure, a resolute Neapolitan defence held firm and a late breakaway goal sealed a 2-0 victory for Napoli.

Playing for places 17 – 32, London were determined to finish the tournament positively and win their remaining 4 games.  A confident 1-0 victory over Ljubljana secured London a match against their old friends from Amsterdam.  A competitively fought game saw Amsterdam win 2-1, and London fighting for 21st place.  London’s final two games saw victories against Leuven (5-0) and Abidjan (1-0); and 21st place for London.
